About Me/CV

Kia Ora!

My name is Victoria, or Miss. Stagg as some students call me!

This blog is like an electronic version of a diary for the start of my teaching career. Things I have been learning, things I find interesting, and sharing some of my plans and things we have been doing in the classroom while on my placements at schools.

I am enjoying my Graduate Diploma year immensely, even though it is very busy! During my year in Dunedin, I have been trying to immerse myself in as many activities and learning opportunities as possible.  I am very excited about starting as a beginning teacher next year!

Philosophy Statement:

I am a passionate and enthusiastic teacher who is committed to the life long learning and growth of my students.  I have a calm and caring nature that children respond well to and I value developing close relationships with all my students and their whanau, as well as the wider community.  I celebrate diversity and creativity in the classroom.

I establish a nurturing classroom environment where individuals feel valued and safe. All students will be recognised and celebrated for their individuality and achievements and together as a classroom community, we will respect and work alongside each other to reach our classroom goals. I have high expectations for all my students..

In a classroom, I adopt the theory of reciprocal learning, ‘ako’, and that learning can be a collaborative process.  I endeavour to spark curiosity in students while encouraging them to be active participants in their learning, challenging them to reach their highest potential and capabilities.  I believe that engaging in interesting and meaningful activities will propel student learning, and I ensure that my planning in all curriculum areas reflect this belief. By reflecting on my teaching and learning I am able to continually improve and advance in my practices and promote that my students do so as well.

I aim to encourage students "to be brave and confident explorers, tough in spirit and flexible in mind, to pursue their dreams and ambitions" – Guy Claxton.
